General or genre?

Sometimes ideas just pop up and I start a project without giving much thought to its genre. I don’t read just one genre, so I never thought I would only have to write one genre.
But there’s marketing. And library shelving.
So here’s a discussion of “the genre debate.”

The case of the closed case

Fans of the great detective will be pleased to learn the U.S. Supreme Court, by declining to hear a case, has made Sherlock Holmes fair game for new interpretation. I love the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, but I also love some of the newer tales. Laurie King’s stories of Mary Russell are among my favorite.
